GPPAC works to promote conflict prevention and peacebuilding at both a conceptual and practical level. As such, the UN International Day of Peace - which falls on 21 September and calls for a 24-hour global ceasefire - represents an excellent opportunity to promote our agenda. Northeast Asia has a special attribute to promote peace, human rights, equal and sustainable development and respect for the environment: the Peace Boat. The Peace Boat is a ship that creates a neutral, mobie space for global educational programs, cooperative projects and advocacy activities to promote peace and conflict prevention. It carries out its main activities through a chartered passenger ship that travels the world on peace voyages.

 

For the International Day of Peace they have several public activities planned in Beijing, Hong Kong, Seoul, Shanghai, Taipei and Tokyo. The common theme relates to the Global Article 9 to Abolish War. They will make use of blogs on youtube, mixi, flickr and facebook. Several opinion pieces are submitted to regional newspapers. In Tokyo, there is a preliminary event at the departure of the 63rd Global Voyage of the Peace Boat on August 28.
